PROGRAM
Kay Coats, "Don't Short the Short People"
Kay Coats is an Early Childhood Music Education Specialist
who has been interviewed by Radio Disney on her work with teaching music to young children.
She received her BA from Colorado Womens College in Business Management/Music Industry and
taught Kindermusik to children ages newborn through eight for thirteen years.
She has performed in a Balinese gamelon,
sung in a four-part a cappella chorus and quartet,
directed a children's chorus,
sung at various local events,
and is currently in a classic rock/blues band singing lead vocals and blowing blues harp.
She teaches piano, guitar, voice, and electric bass in her home in Centennial
and is also a composer and arranger.
We look forward to meeting Kay.
FROM OUR PRESIDENT:
Greetings and salutations!
The new school year has begun; all too quickly it feels. It seems much too hot for school!
I hope your summer went well; mine has been one I'd rather forget, but that is another story.
We have a great line-up of programs for this year.
We start off with a program by Kay Coats from Centennial.
She is a bundle of excitement and energy who specializes in the Blues.
I met her at the CSMTA conference and was immediately struck by her excitement for sharing music with youngsters.
This will be a program that you won't want to miss: exciting younger students about studying music.
Sadly, our masterclass with Dr. Alejandro Cremaschi, the head of the music department at CU, has had to be cancelled.
Band schedules and lack of teacher enthusiasm necessitated the cancellation.
Perhaps another time when we are all given longer notice.
I want to thank all of the members of the executive committee for their dedication, and special thanks to Debi Strick,
in advance, for attending the CSMTA special meeting in September while I will be at a very special calligraphy masterclass back east.
Be sure to check out this year's schedule and put the meetings on your calendar.
For teacher enrichment you will want to take advantage of the knowledge imparted by our presenters,
and for student enrichment, to participate in LAMTA's excellent opportunities such as Achievement Day.
And we welcome your ideas and thoughts.
I hope to see you on the 8th!
Sincerely, Marjorie
