TOPIC: Music for Teaching
Presented by Grace Christus: Jade Press Publishing
Grace Christus has been a piano and composition teacher, composer, and performer in Aurora, Colorado for 18 years.
She has B.M. degrees from the George Peabody College for Teachers, The Juilliard School, and the Manhattan School of Music.
Grace has been composing since the age of 12 when she wrote a composition for the Nashville Symphony Orchestra.
Her compositions include works for piano, voice, and chorus, many of which are available at local music stores and online at GCMusik.com.
For the last six years she has taught summer composition classes at Calliope Music Studios,
and has adjudicated at a number of composition competitions and Festivals.
FROM OUR PRESIDENT:
Hello Everyone,
We had an excellent first meeting with an undoubtedly fine program from Debi and Judy on motivation. Grand job ladies.
In continuation, the October program features the multi-faceted Grace Chritus
and should be an interesting segue as she will discuss music for teaching.
I went to her presentation at the CSMTA Conference and she has some great ideas on starting students in composition,
so perhaps we can get her to share some of those ideas as well.
We have some important topics to discuss this month concerning our association constitution and by-laws,
as well as final plans for the Piano Festival (2009).
I hope we can get a good turn out so as many members as possible will receive the information first hand.
Also, some exciting news. It appears we have two new members.
It's always refreshing to see what teachers bring to our association. Have fun teaching.
And to Peggy and Ann, I'm sure everyone joins me in wishing you only the very best during your recoveries.
See you soon,
Bill

Vocal/Piano Colalborative Master Class Workshop & Recital
Saturday, March 27, 2010
Cynthia Vaughn is once again preparing for another wonderful event
for Loveland and Fort Collins vocal teachers & their students as well as collaborative student pianists.
She geers this usually for the Middle & High School students.
It will again be held at Cynthia's Magnolia Music Studio on Magnnolia Street in Old Town Fort Collins.
It was very much loved last year and we had a wonderful reponse and turn out.
There will be a limit due to the available time for the clinician.
Her plan is have vocal students/teacher select their vocal pieces in October 2009.
Then collaborative piano students/teachers will be matched and receive their music in November.
If according to plan everyone will be working on their particular music by January after the holidays.
This will give all teen collaborative pianists & vocalist a lot more time to properly prepare.
PHANTOM the musical by Maury Yeston,
currently playing at the Candlelight Dinner Playhouse
This is not the Andrew Lloyd Weber version,
but the very deep and compelling story of the Phantom himself, beautifully staged with wonderful music.
Playing through November 8. (The 2nd act requires a handful of tissues.)
