FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Hello all you wonderful teachers,
I certainly hope everyone enjoyed the refreshing summer.
As you know, a few of our committee members have already been hard at work preparing for this years meetings, events and programs.
A very big thank you goes to Sonia for her diligent work in preparing our meeting schedule.
Programs include a variety of topics such as: Motivating Students, Music for Teaching - from Jade Press, Simply Music, Improvisation, Music in China, and Contours in Music (?); and not to be forgotten, our teachers recital, student ensemble recital, and Honors Recital.
In addition, Debi Strick and the festival committee have been hard at work preparing for the
Piano Festival taking place on November 7, at CSU.
She will have a lot of pertinent information for us at the first meeting, including some new and, I think, very welcome changes in format.
Her "super pen" (well perhaps typing) will also prepare our calendar of events and membership list.
And if that is not enough, she and Judy will present the first program on motivation. Wow.
And, of course, another big thank you to Judy for keeping us informed,
and preparing this and future newsletters.
Many of us will be working on upcoming activities and I thank you for that in advance.
Also, a big congratulations to Ruth.
She has been selected as the CSMTA Teacher Certification Chair.
Two events have already occurred.
The state conference and our annual family picnic.
You may read about the picnic in this newsletter.
And, as you probably already know, our little association received the honor of CSMTA Local Association of the Year (2008-2009).
Also, although I am biased, our association display prepared by Peggy, with a two tiered display board and two scrapbooks, was superior.
Concerning last year, here is a thank you to all the teachers for all the support and diligent work on each and every project.
We all work hard together, which is a blessing.
My biggest thank you is extended to Sandy. She has raised the bar of excellence.
It was through her organizational skills, administrative skills, foresight, and caring guidance that LAMTA has been able to shine.
Although we always achieve some wonderful teacher/student accomplishments, it was her diligent documentation in, and preparation of the annual report to CSMTA that attracted their attention and cemented the award we received.
Debi, our secretary, has been entrusted with the plaque on which LAMTA is engraved.
She will be bringing it to all the meetings for you to view.
So again, thank you Sandy for a banner year, I hope you will be back in the President's chair soon.
On a serious note, I was greatly concerned when I heard that Peggy had a stroke recently.
Judy and I saw her at the rehabilitation hospital and she seems to be recovering well.
I know all our prayers, thoughts, and visits have been fruitful. She has wonderful care, and great support from friends and family.
I gave her a small gift in hopes of cheering her up, but left having been cheered up myself.
She immediately began talking about her students.
Her refreshing and delightful enjoyment in teaching always lifts my spirits.
Well, enough for now. I am looking forward to another banner year.
Bill
2nd Annual LAMTA Family Picnic
The picnic was such a nice time to get together informally and visit with LAMTA mebers and their spouses and children.
So many times at meetings we don't have a lot of time to socialize, and the picnic is a great chance to visit.
There was a good turnout. Members that were there were Kathy Bergman, Renee Clay, Elaine Eastman, Sandy Lundberg,
Marjorie Monroe-Fischer, Bill Popp, Debi Strick, and Ruth Hale.
Former member Bev Haag was there and we especially thank Ruth Hale and her husband Frederick for hosting the picnic.
They have added an enclosed patio (which is beautiful!)to their house which was so comfortable and enjoyable
as the weather was stormy outside, and we were all so cozy inside the enclosed patio.
The food was yummy. Mexican food was the ticket, and everyone brought an item.
It was a good time!
