Before the final curriculum is set, the participants will be able to give input on exactly what they hope to have covered!
There are just one or two more spots still available to join this special class. The cost is $25 per two hour class, per person. For more information, or to quickly reserve your spot, call Chris at 635-2663.
Composition Workshop for Students
Sandy Lundberg
On January 20, a Saturday morning, Christine Schumann came to my home and presented workshops on composition to all of the students in my piano studio. We divided the morning into two groups, older and younger, to keep the activities age-appropriate. Chris first talked to the students about how to go about the creative process, how to create a motif and develop it into a complete piece, and how form contributes to a finished composition.
My students have been studying the Classical Era this year, and as a part of that process have each been working on their own variation of Twinle, Twinkle, Little Star, as Mozart did. To encouarage this, the second part of the workshop was in a master class format, with Chris hearing each of the student's work, and making comments and suggestions.
I was very impressed with the way that Christine presented her information, and even more impressed with the way she encouraged the students with their own compositional efforts. Her suggestions to them were right on the mark and made them feel hopeful and encouraged to continue their work.
Chris is open to doing this for other teachers and I would encourage you to consider it. It was a very positive experience for me and for my students. You can contact her at 635-2663.
