November Meeting
Our meeting this month will be on November 10, 9:03 a.m., at the home of Debi Strick,2319 Oleander Drive.From N. Madison, turn west on Silver Leaf, then south (left) on Oleander.Debi's house is on the right just past Nyssa Dr.From N. Lincoln turn east on 23rd St. and south (right) on Oleander. Follow Oleander around and her house will be on your left.
Special Presentation
Linda Sommer, past president of CSMTA, now chairman of the certification committee will talk to us and answer questions about certification before our regular program.
Program
Betty Lou O'Leske will present the program "Give Them a Way to Shine: Teaching Students with Special Needs."Betty Lou has had many years of experience in this field and has some wonderful things to share. Betty Lou's ideas will benefit all of us in some very important ways.
Biography
Betty Lou has a B.S. degree in Biochemistry & Medical Technology from Fond du Lae, Wisconsin with post graduate work in Scripture & teaching from Regis University.She studied counseling at the University of Wisconsin while at Ethan Allan Boys School.She has a wonderful background in music from ConcertPianist Dana Knapp."I loved piano playing since I started at 9 years old.Zoe Brunson Nishimuta talked me into teaching in Loveland in 1983.Barbara Engelhart nudged meright into Suzuki Training which was outstanding."Her favorite composer is Franz Liszt. "I always loved his work for the beautiful, lacey sound and cadenzas.I didn't always have the reach for some chords, but managed most of it."Betty Lou's favorite vacation destination is anywhere in the mountains. Her favorite color is coral.
December Program
Our December program will feature "Espanola Extravaganza"; our teachers sharing Spanish piano, instrumental and vocal music. We need contributions from everyone to make this program happen! This is our chance to stretch and grow.Look for Spanish composers such as Turina, Albeniz, de Falla, & Granados. Please call Judy (667-9054) with your song title so she can arrange the program.We will also have a buffet luncheon after the meeting.If you can find a Spanish Recipe, that would be wonderful, but anything will be welcome.Please plan to stay.
Jazzy Little Christmas
Rocky Mountain Chamber Singers will present "Jazzy Little Christmas" on Saturday, December 11, 7:30 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 305 E. Elizabeth St. in Fort Collins, and on Sunday, December 12, 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 815 E. 16th St. in Loveland. Enjoy jazz arrangements of Christmas songs and favorite carols, in addition to more jazzy tune such as: Embraceable You, Ain't Misbehaving, and The Shadow of your Smile. Tickets are $10.

Please plan to attend the Lecture Recital and world premiere of The Solo Art Songs of Colorado composer Robert Edward Kreutz, presented byLAMTA member Dr. Juliana Bishop-Hoch, Sunday, November 14, 2:30 pm at CSU Music Building Recital Hall (Rm 203) Tickets $7.
Jazz Piano Workshop
Tony Caramia, a wonderful, classically-trained jazz and novelty pianist, will be in Denverfor a Jazz PianoWorkshop Friday, November 12, 9:00-12:00 at Music & Arts in Littleton.I (Judy) met him at the CSMTA Conference a year ago and he is wonderful--very personable and a great teacher.I am going.Call me if you would like to go with me (Judy Johnson - 667-9054).We need to register right away.
MTNA Fee Changes
Changes in certification fees as of 1/1/05 will be; first area of performance, $200.00; additional areas, $150.00.
Metro State Piano Celebration
Second Annual Piano Celebration at Metro State, 1/28,29/05, contact 303-556-5715.
MTNA National Conference
The 2005 National Conference will be held in Seattle, April 2 - 6. Registration is $225 before February 21. Contact Bill if you are interested in attending.
Reel-to-Reel Tape Deck Needed
For some time now I have been searching for a reel-to-reel tape recorder to listen to the many tapes I have from past live performances. I hope to someday transfer some of the selections from these tapes to cassette or CD. If any of you have a tape player that I may borrow for a few days, please contact me at 667-4524. I would really appreciate it. Bill Popp
