Special Thank You
Many thanks to all who participated at our very special December program
"Espanola Extravaganza." The program was varied and wonderful.Special thanks to Roger Pierce (guitar) and Bill Popp (accordion), who not only performed in the program, but serenaded us during our luncheon, and to Ann Bunyan, our hostess. Of course, the luncheon, as usual, was delicious and very healthful. We will definitely choose another country for a program sometime next year.
Here is a "Spanish Recipe" from the luncheon.
Ensalada de Arroz (Andalusian Rice Salad)
This cold rice salad is a modern variation on traditional Spanish ingredients. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add salt and rice; cover and cook slowly 20 minutes or until rice is just tender. While the rice is cooking, make vinaigrette sauce by combining the olive oil, vinegar, garlic, and onion. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
1 cup converted rice
1 tsp. salt
8 Tbsp. olive oil
3 Tbsp. wine vinegar
1 large clove garlic, minced
1 small onion, minced
salt and pepper
1 4-oz. jar whole pimentos
2 Tbsp. chopped parsley
green and black olives for garnish
Drain the pimentos. Cut 6 narrow strips and set them aside. Finely chop the remaining pimentos. Cool the rice slightly. Add the vinaigrette sauce, chopped pimento and parsley. Toss gently
Spoon rice into serving bowl. When cool, cover and chill thoroughly. Decorate the top with the reserved pimento strips and olives.
Makes 4-6 servings.

Letter From the President
Dear LAMTA Teachers:
I would like at this time to heartily thank all of you for the great support and assistance you have given me during the first half of this student year. The presenters we have had thus far have beenexcellent, andthe teacher/performers at our December Spanish Extravaganza were entertaining and informative. Thank you for all the hard work. Congratulations to all of our teachers, who as can be expected, continue to dedicate themselves to the highest quality in private music instruction. And, a special congratulations to our students and teachers who received awards and honorable mention at the piano festival.
I am looking forward to the coming events: Achievement Day, the Honors Recital, and of course, the CSMTA Conference. We have also initiated projects which should be very beneficial to LAMTA. For instance, changes to the piano festival that should make it less costly and more accessible to LAMTA students, additions to the flier in order to attract more students, and fund raising activities to help support our student enhancing activities.
Again,I am looking forward to the second half-year. I wisheveryone a healthy and prosperous 2005.
Sincerely, Bill
