August 2003

From the President's Desk
Judy Johson
I hope you are all having a great summer. Many thanks to Sandy for being willing to send to send this out.
A huge thank you to our retiring officers: Ann Bunyan, Secretary, and Caroline Orman, Treasurer. Also to Peggy Tighe, Newsletter Publisher. You are all wonderful!
Welcome to Renee Clay, new Secreatry and Tania Newgord, new Treasurer.
Now, how do you feel about this solution for 2003-2004? Judy Johnson, President, and Carol Condit, Vice-President. Next year, 2004-2005, Carol will take over as President and Judy will assist as needed until Carol's term as Sons of Norway President ends in December, 2004. We will need a new Vice President, who would then become President in two or more years. This is all we have been able to figure out. Please call me if you have any input. We will vote in September.
We met to talk about next year's program on July 9. One program that I can tell you about is that Carolyn Shaak will be returning in March for a joint meeting with the Fort Collins group. More details later.
Be sure to go into the Loveland Library in August to see our display window. See you in September! Love, Judy

Piano Festival: November 15, 2003
Many thanks to Ann Bunyan who will be chairman of the Piano Festival Committee this year. I hope you are all working on 1950 or later pieces, as well as a contrasting piece for this wonderful event.Remember, your students need to be at Level 6 (Achievement Day) or above.

LAMTA Meetings Resume in September
Regular meetings resume again on September 10, the second Wednesday morning of the month, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The location will be announced in the August newsletter. Look for some great new programs in the upcoming year.

Titanic!!
Don't miss this musical on stage at the Lincoln Center in Fort Collins. It is produced by the Front Range Music Theatre, which is the performing arm of the Loveland Music Guild.Proceeds go to scholarships for our own high school graduates, majoring in the performing arts. Most of the people who live at my house are involved and come home every night telling me how wonderful it is going to be. It is very different than the movie.

Cheri Richards Scholarships Awarded
Cheri Richards was a past LAMTA piano teacher who died suddenly at age 44 of an aneurysm. Her family gave a financial gift to LAMTA, which has been used ever since to provide scholarships for children's music education based on talent, family size and financial need.
This year it was decided to award scholarships of $125 each to Alexander Hofmeister, 3rd grade, and Krystyna Harlling, 5th grade, students of Judith Ramirez, and Matt Robbins, 10th grade, student of Ruth Hale.
