Piano Festival
The Fort Collins/Loveland Piano Festival - 2012will be held on November 3 at the University Center for the Arts, on the Colorado State University Campus, 1400 Remington.
The required piece will be Baroque.
The other piece will be of a different composer and of a contracting style.
The Loveland/Ft. Collins Piano Festival is celebrating 20 years, having been an annual event since 1991 and is one of the highlights of the year. It is held on the second Saturday in November. Each student plays two pieces of contrasting style period, with one from the style chosen for focus that year Baroque, Classical, Dances, etc. The pieces are played in open audition for two judges. Students are placed in groups of 6 - 8, according to their level. A committee of Fort Collins and Loveland teachers organize the event each year. There is a registration fee due in early October. Teachers of participating students serve as monitors.
2011 THEME: Bartok or Eastern European Composer
THREE CATEGORIES:
1. Competitive (both pieces memorized)--Intermediate and Advanced, Level 6 and up. (Please refer to CSMTA Activities Handbook p.6)
Two or three students may be chosen in each group by judges to perform in the 4 pm recital and will receive and a trophy. Judges may designate students as "Honorable Mention," but these students do not perform in the recital.
2. Non-competitive (memorization encouraged but not required), Intermediate and Advanced, Level 6 and up. (Please refer to CSMTA Activities Handbook p.6)
These students are NOT eligible to win or to play in the recital, but will receive a professional, written critique. (May be integrated into the competitive groups)
3. Non-competitive--Levels 2,3,4 & 5 (Please refer to CSMTA Activities Handbook p.6)
Separate groups from above. Memorization encouraged but not required. Students will receive a certificate and an evaluation from judges. After or before these students perform, they may visit and listen to the Intermediate and Advanced students groups, and are encouraged to attend the 4 P.M. recital.

To Participate:
1. Plan ahead and assign pieces during the summer to students who qualify. It takes time to memorize and perfect two selections.
2. Obtain registration forms by clicking 2011 Information at the top of this page. Follow the instructions and turn in the required forms by the deadline date, October 12.
3. Contact parents about the event so they can check their calendar and are prepared to pay the registration fee.
4. Clear your calendar so that you can spend the day at the Festival. This is a great time to listen to good music and learn new repertoire!
